West Logan on alert for flooding

Since ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred downgraded to a tropical low, West Logan residents have been faced with another challenge as heavy downpours cause widespread flooding across the region.

Multiple roads and bridges across Jimboomba, Greenbank, North and South Maclean, Flagstone, Cedar Grove, Logan Village, and Tamborine have become inundated overnight as flood waters continue to rise.

As of 9am Monday 8 March, Mount Lindesay Highway at Jimboomba near the Shell Coles Express petrol station has been partially closed, with water rising over the low point of the road heading southbound. A contraflow has been put in place on the high point of the road, enabling access for motorists travelling in and out of Jimboomba.

Cusack Lane at Henderson Creek has been closed, with the creek currently sitting 1.7 metres above the road and continuing to rise.

Water is also continuing to rise at Flagstone Creek Bridge at Teviot Road in South Maclean, which currently sits at 5.9 metres high and 2.1 metres below road level.

Emergency alerts for dangerous flooding have been issued to Greenbank, New Beith, Forestdale, Tamborine and Cedar Creek. Residents in these areas are being advised it is now too dangerous to leave, and are urged to get up as high as they can if near flood waters.
